Touro Infirmary is dedicated to improving the health status and well being of the people it serves through the provision of effective, efficient and compassionate healthcare services.

Touro was founded over 150 years ago as a not for profit hospital that was open to all, regardless of class or financial status.

Over a century and a half later, Touro continues to lead by example in the manner in which it provides services to those in our community who are financially disadvantaged.

Touro is located in New Orleans, Louisiana, an urban area, which, while noted for tourism, food and music, is economically depressed and has some of the highest incidence of disease and medical problems in the country.

Largely driven by life style, New Orleans has an unusually high incidence of diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

As a result of these factors, Touro provides a substantial number of programs aimed at educating the public through free seminars and disease detection through free health screenings.

These programs, many of which focus on diabetes, heart disease and cancer, are largely targeted at persons of low socio-economic means.
