Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine Clinic - LVIM

This clinic most likely saved my life. I was diagnosed with hepatitis c 35 years ago and could not afford the cost of treatment on average of $80,000 and although I have always been employed I was not offered help insurance by my employer. To my knowledge all of the staff are volunteers however that doesn't mean that they skimp on the their services, quite the contrary they have been most helpful with any and all of my health issues including vision and dental. I have always been treated with respect and compassion and was never made to feel Shane or embarrassment due to my financial status. I have been blessed with a wonderful doctor, Dr Robert Chapman sets the bar for how health providers should treat their patients. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge and yet speaks to you as though you are on the same level. He doesn't talk down to you as many doctors do. He is compassionate, a great listener and always looks for solutions or options that can improve your particular health issues. I have been to this clinic.I needed medical care. This clinic was completely free. The staff was friendly. I waited less than 30 minutes It has good intentions but lacks any true care. You can get simple things treated with in reason there but most other things all they can do is advise. If you have a serious illness or health issue that goes beyond the free clinics limited abilities you are pretty much out of luck. Do not expect to get any comprehensive treatment if you have longing issues or something like chronic problems. Honestly you are wasting your time if you expect more then just antibiotics and a thump on the chest along with a stethoscope this is not the place. Also to note there are hundreds of doctors living in Polk county and they manage to get a mere handful to work at LVIM.
