This Free Clinic was organized in 1998 by a citizen group that wanted to alleviated the lack of health care for the working poor of Gloucester and Mathews counties. The clinic is mainly funded by local donations from individuals, churches, and civic groups, and the local county governments also contribute. An executive director, clinical nurse coordinator, and a indigent drug coordinator staff, and part-time office manager staff the clinic; all other positions are volunteer including physicians, nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, and office personnel. Approximately 100 volunteers are actively spending time at this clinic each month.
They give free access to basic healthcare, including, medical, dental and patient education.
Their mission of the Gloucester-Mathews Free Clinic is to provide community-based healthcare for the residents of Gloucester and Mathews Counties who lack health insurance or enough income to pay for it. Their goal is to provide this care through the efforts of volunteers and paid professional and support staff, and through contributions.
