Healing the Sick in the Name of Jesus-Mission Medical Clinic is a Christian free clinic founded in January, 2004. From a one loaned room clinic with seven volunteers seeing the poor and uninsured one night a week, we have grown into a comprehensive chronic disease management group of clinics under one central roof which includes primary care, diabetes, dental, vision, spiritual support and prayer, gynecology, behavioral health, cardiac care and prevention, which collaborates with Peak Vista Community Health Centers, the medical and dental societies, hospital systems, and other safety net clinics. Our “niche” is to serve low income adults with no coverage and no access living in El Paso and Teller counties with chronic disease conditions. We have over 250 volunteers supplemental by a small number of mostly part time staff.

Since this is a sliding fee scale clinic, we have provided the Federal Poverty Guidelines below. Visit the Mission Medical Clinic Colorado Springs website listed above to see what the level is needed for free care.
|Persons In Family Household||Poverty Guideline Salary per year|
For Households with more than 8 persons, add $4,480 for each additional person.
*Alaska and Hawaii have different rates for HUD federal poverty guidelines.
These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get reduced or free services from some clinics, they use a sliding fee scale based on your income. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.

I telephoned Mission Medical Clinic for a referral to another doctor or similar health care provider, now that law has changed to exclude people unless they are not eligible for Medicaid, and a volunteer told me to send an email to the executive director. A few days later I called the same volunteer to say that I did not receive an answer. The volunteer informed me that the executive director was \\\"very busy\\\". I then asked if there was some other way to get a referral, and the volunteer told me to send my letter by standard U.S. mail addressed to the director. I mailed a type-written letter to her a day or two later, but it has been 5 days and I still have not received an answer. I have a sense that my request is being evaded, and this may be a common occurrence among medical administrators, doctors, and other medical supervisors and \\\"gatekeepers\\\" when non-standard and potentially critical questions of health grind through the political criteria for medical aid.
