About Virginia Beach Department of Public Health

This clinic operates under a SLIDING SCALE model. This means that it MAY NOT be free depending on your income. You will be required to prove financial need in order to receive free services or services at a reduced cost. Virginia Beach Department of Public Health is a Community Health Center. In order to get more information on this clinic, click on the icons below. You may be required to join for free in order to access full contact information.

The Mission of the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health Clinic is to promote physical and mental health and prevent disease, injury and disability in the citizens of Virginia Beach. Prevention services are the main focus of the clinics. A multi-disciplinary public health team provides services to improve or maintain the well being of the person and the community as a whole. The Health Department provides direct services for specific diseases that threaten the health of the community and develops programs that prevent, contain, and control the transmission of infectious diseases. Health services, including preventive health services, are provided to high risk and vulnerable populations. Services include coordination, education, follow-up, referral, and case management as indicated.

This Health Center is based on Sliding scale fees which are variable prices for products, services, or taxes based on a customer's ability to pay. Such fees are thereby reduced for those who have lower incomes, or alternatively, less money to spare after their personal expenses, regardless of income.

Since this is a sliding fee scale clinic, we have provided the Federal Poverty Guidelines below. Visit the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health website listed above to see what the level is needed for free care.

Federal Poverty Guidelines for 2021

Persons In Family Household Poverty Guideline Salary per year
1 $12,760
2 $17,240
3 $21,720
4 $26,200
5 $30,680
6 $35,160
7 $39,640
8 $44,120

For Households with more than 8 persons, add $4,480 for each additional person.
*Alaska and Hawaii have different rates for HUD federal poverty guidelines.
These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get legal aid from some offices, they use a sliding fee scale. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.
