SMHC provides free medical care, outreach and education to low-income, uninsured families and individuals who are not eligible for government programs. It was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, St. Paul Province, (www.csjstpaul.org) upon the belief that healthcare is a basic human right. SMHC works with hundreds of compassionate, caring, and gifted volunteers. SMHC also conducts health promotion, health screening, health education, and outreach in collaboration with community organizations and advocates for healthcare as a basic human right while assisting low-income people to find affordable healthcare coverage.

SMHC provides direct care to uninsured and underinsured within the Twin Cities metropolitan area at community-based clinics. These clinics are located in spaces donated by churches, schools, and community centers in the metropolitan area.

Since this is a sliding fee scale clinic, we have provided the Federal Poverty Guidelines below. Visit the St. Mary's Health Clinics website listed above to see what the level is needed for free care.

Federal Poverty Guidelines for 2022

Persons In Family HouseholdPoverty Guideline Salary per year
1$12,880
2$17,420
3$21,960
4$26,500
5$31,040
6$35,580
7$40,120
8$44,660

For Households with more than 8 persons, add $4,480 for each additional person.
*Alaska and Hawaii have different rates for HUD federal poverty guidelines.
These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get reduced or free services from some clinics, they use a sliding fee scale based on your income. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.
